Rand Paul joked that the trio of scandals hitting the Obama administration reminded him of the children’s song “Old MacDonald.”

“Old MacDonald’s Farm of Scandals: here’s a scandal, there’ s a scandal, everywhere a scandal,” Paul said. “So it’s hard to know which scandal we want to talk about, but I think they all sort of stem from one problem and that’s the government has accumulated too much power, the president has accumulated too much power. Not just this president, but maybe the last 10 presidents, because we allowed that power to go from Congress to the presidency. We’ve allowed the presidency to become too strong.”

The Obama Administration’s Two-Front War on Fox

In June of 2009, the president complained about a “certain cable network” devoted entirely to attacking his administration. Four months later, former White House communications director Anita Dunn in 2009 said of Fox, “We’re going to treat them the way we would treat an opponent,” adding, “We don’t need to pretend that this is the way that legitimate news organizations behave.” The administration went on to try to exclude Fox from the network pool that covers the White House, making a recent appointee — pay czar Kenneth Feinberg — available for interviews to every network but Fox. When the other networks refused to conduct the interview until Fox was included, the White House relented. But the verbal assault continued, with Obama telling Rolling Stone magazine in 2010 that the network represents a point of view that is “ultimately destructive for the long-term growth of a country that has a vibrant middle class and is competitive in the world.”

Senate Democrats Block Sen. Paul’s Resolution Condemning IRS

On Tuesday Senate Democrats declared they felt it wasn’t in the nation’s best interest to condemn the IRS for illegally targeting Tea Party and Conservative groups. Apparently the Senate does not believe in accountability. This is unfortunate for the American people given they are clamoring for it in the midst of numerous scandals with the IRS, Benghazi, the DOJ wiretapping AP reporters, and others. This bill simply recommended an investigation of the IRS as well calling for the firings of the individuals found to be at fault for this unethical behavior.

Today, Senate Democrats placed a hold on Sen. Rand Paul’s recent resolution that condemns the targeting of Tea Party groups by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and calls for an investigation into this practice.

“This resolution is not about Republican vs. Democrat or conservative vs. liberal. It is about arrogant and unrestrained government vs. the rule of law. The First Amendment cannot and should not be renegotiated depending on which party holds power,” Sen. Paul said. ”Each senator took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, yet Senate Democrats chose to block my resolution and thus refused to condemn the IRS for trampling on our First Amendment rights. I am incredibly disappointed in Washington’s party politics and I am determined to hold the IRS accountable for these unjust acts.” (SOURCE)

“President Obama should terminate the individuals responsible for targeting and willfully discriminating against Tea Party groups and other conservative groups,” said Paul.

This resolution is not about Republican vs. Democrat or conservative vs. liberal,” he said. “It is about arrogant and unrestrained government vs. the rule of law. The First Amendment cannot and should not be renegotiated depending on which party holds power.”

“Each senator took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, yet Senate Democrats chose to block my resolution and thus refused to condemn the IRS for trampling on our First Amendment rights,” he continued. “I am incredibly disappointed in Washington’s party politics and I am determined to hold the IRS accountable for these unjust acts.”

“I’m offended when any kind of government entity targets people for their political or religious beliefs,” Paul said at an Iowa GOP fundraiser, “so it’s, you know, particularly offensive, since I’m one of the groups they were targeting. They didn’t audit me personally, but, you know, government should never be used to bully people.”

Republicans push for special Benghazi committee

The Republican-led House has held several oversight hearings investigating the terrorist Sept. 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and they’re not over yet. Many House Republicans, however, want to go one step further and create a special committee to investigate the incident.

Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., has found 146 cosponsors so far – almost two-thirds of the 232 House Republicans – for his legislation to create a select committee for the investigation, which would be comprised of 19 congressmen. In addition to five members appointed by House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and two more appointed by Boehner after consultation with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., the committee would include the Republican chairmen and top Democrats from six relevant committees: the Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, Homeland Security, Intelligence, Judiciary, and Oversight and Government Reform Committees.

Congress has in the past convened special committees to investigate scandals, such as Whitewater during the Clinton administration and Watergate.
