House Speaker Johnson Blasted by Sen. Rand Paul For FISA Betrayal
There goes the Bill of Rights
Throughout our great nation’s history, there have been far too many cases of the government abusing its power to spy on - and ultimately punish - certain American citizens. In 2024, this threat remains very much real.
We all saw this play out during the Obama administration when the 44th president intentionally weaponized the IRS against Tea Party members. Just a few years ago, the Biden administration tried (and failed, thanks to conservative pushback) to have people fired from their jobs if they declined to take COVID-19 vaccines.
All things considered, there’s a very strong case to be made that if the government is going to keep tabs on American citizens, there needs to be a warrant granting permission to do so. In Congress, this is exactly what Republican lawmakers are fighting to enact via an amendment to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
Sadly, the effort to protect Americans’ privacy rights and keep big government at bay is being sabotaged by none other than Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson. To this end, GOP Sen. Rand Paul had some choice words — and a critical warning.
