I would like to see us get back to government by policy instead of government by programs. The idea that problems will go away once we create a department to address that problem and then fund it annually with increasing budgets is idiotic on the face of it. It flies in the face of human experience, intelligence, and plain old common sense. EVERYBODY knows what happens when a government agency is created, especially the characters who invent and promote them. It's maddening. Oversight becomes "a threat to the program" and "an insult to our fine men and women". Apart from that, any attempt at oversight becomes the job of (yes, you guessed it!) a government agency, resisting oversight of itself. Government by policy can avoid the worst of the abuses and futilities of government by program. Annual budgets and ad hoc agencies with firm sunset dates would make financial accountability more achievable. Limited career opportunities and benefits would prevent, or at least mitigate, the creation of bureaucratic fiefdoms. We deserve better. We need to demand better.
No taxpayer would vote for those absurd things. The beagle torture is sickening. I thought that was stopped! It’s infuriating because there’s no way to stop the waste and fraud. Our representatives just keep voting for it or allowing it and there’s nothing people can do about it. You just start thinking what’s the point of even reading the report because no one seems to care but Rand Paul.
Well, how about we make a call to Rand Paul’s office and leave a supportive message with our thanks AND call every other politician’s office and voice our outrage. Maybe we could come up with a plan to call one day a week and send an email and letter either weekly or biweekly. Maybe we could get a few friends each and encourage them to get friends…just throwing out an idea here …..is there anyone willing to pursue this with me? Or maybe have some better ideas? I am a member of a few caring and informed online groups and I could suggest this project there and also we could contact animal rescue groups and see if they could join in with focus on the animal abuse and see if we can get that one crime stopped.
